Nowhere else in Cambodia is the French influence more apparent than in Battambang. The colonial buildings along the waterfront including the old governor's residence are impressive and lend an air of historic charm.

Kamping Puoy is a reservoir located around 30km from the town of Battambang accessible by a new road. The reservoir was built by the Khmer Rouge in one of their grander schemes and thousands of people died during its construction. It is popular with locals at the weekend who come out here with picnics.

Phnom Sampeau would be an interesting place even if it weren't for the rather grisly recent history. The hill rises sharply from the flat surrounding countryside about 14 kilometers south of Battambang, affording a great view of Battambang and the rest of the countryside.
